Enhancing Airport Security with Smart Video Surveillance
Ensuring security at airports, regardless of their size, is becoming more complex throughout the world as activity amongst organized crime and acts of terrorism continue to rise.
Larger or small, airports are experiencing higher volumes of travellers, imports, exports as well as refuelling more planes than ever before. In addition, airport liability continues to rise in certain operations such as self-serve luggage loading, refuelling and portable X-ray screening.
United Protection offers an innovative Smart Surveillance solution that can reduce operational risk for Airport Authorities while enhancing operations. The hardware/software solution monitors the area 24/7 and uses user-defined rules to trigger alerts for rule violations. It is an artificial intelligence that can detect an event, trigger a real-time notification as well as control other devices on the site. It is capable of notifying Customs when a traveller has become agitated in line signalling that they may be involved in suspicious activity. It provides world leading surveillance technology that once deployed will optimize any size of airport’s operations and put them a step above the rest.
Luggage Screening
This technology has been used by the Calgary Airport Authority to detect humans on a conveyor belt. Self-serve baggage areas have become an operational issue since they pose a potential falling risk. If a person were to fall on the belt it could shut down the entire baggage system costing millions per minute in fines. Other technologies could not differentiate between luggage and humans and resolve the safety issue since it is hard to determine the difference between a hot bag and a person. United Protection’s solution was deployed at the site and proved that it minimized false alarms with a rate less than 1 per 3,000. It is so precise that it has been integrated with an auto belt shut down to ensure that if a person is detected, that the conveyor is stopped on time.
X-Ray
Portable X-ray devices provide airports with the ability to have mobile security screen at any size airport. The devices pose a public safety risk so it is important to know when someone is too close to the machine and needs the device to shut down. United Protection’s solution uses virtual trip wires and can be mounted in a trailer based solution with onboard power and communications so it can move with the mobile X-ray units and ensure both public and worker safety.
Refuelling
Every airport deals with large volumes of navigation gas that is highly flammable and with rising fuel costs, also more prone to theft. United Protection’s technology can detect fuel leaks around fuelling stations and airplanes and activate shut off valves instantly. It can also record fuel monitoring devices and notify when pressure changes or other indicators occur that could reveal gas theft.
